TLAT #2 resumed

On Monday we began our TLAT focused on creativity and innovation. If you weren’t here, see Monday’s blog for details. You should have completed your Section 1 for homework and be ready to roll on Section 2 today.

Today you’ll refine your list and actually fill in at least three activities. Make sure you copy and paste the relevant standards, the possible tools, a one to two sentence description, and the potential problems with your idea. In other words, fill out each box completely. One of the things I’m looking for as I evaluate your work is evidence that you were thoughtful and considered each aspect of your lesson . Showing your thinking in writing is one of the ways I can assess this. So don’t skip this part!

Today’s goal is to finish Section 2. If you get done with Section 2, you may want to begin to choose your criteria for Section 3. You need five items. You can look at my lesson design guide as an example.

Homework
  • Finish Section 2. Make sure you have at least three ideas filled in.
  • Have a fun and safe weekend!

Thinking like a teacher again

We'll start today by showing any late straggler movies that want to be seen.  I really enjoyed watching movies last time, and I look forward to more of you creativity.  We'll also talk briefly about your comments on wallwisher about the Sir Robinson TED talk.

TLAT#2
Today is the moment we’ve all been waiting for: TLAT #2. If you haven’t guessed by now, this project will focus on the NETS standards for creativity and innovation. As a reminder, here’s our focus:
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students:
  • apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.
  • create original works as a means of personal or group expression.
  • use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.
  • identify trends and forecast possibilities.
Read this letter from a Gifted Program teacher.  I’ve shared the new TLAT design guide with you and we’ll be using the same class rolls we used for the first project. Log into your Google Docs and take a look. Don’t forget to save a copy of it so you can edit it. As you’ll notice, you’ll need to do some brainstorming. We looked briefly at Bubbl.us a few days ago, but now it’s time to really use it to generate some thinking. You may learn about a few more tools in class today, so be ready for exploration. Today’s goal? Finish Section 1 of the TLAT design guide. Here’s the schedule for the next few days:
  • Monday 10/25 – TLAT #2 Section1
  • Wednesday 10/27 – TLAT #2 Section 2
  • Friday 10/29 – Fall Break!
  • Monday 11/1 – TLAT #2 Section 3 (in class) and 4 (homework)
  • Wednesday 11/3 – TLAT #2 Section 5.
  • Friday 11/5 – TLAT #2 Due at the beginning of class, embedded in your portfolio.
Homework
Finish Section 1 of your TLAT. We’ll be moving on to Section 2 on Wednesday.
